Lake Grundsjön is renowned as an excellent fishing lake with put-and-take angling. Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) are regularly stocked by the local angling club SFK Regnbågen in Sölvesborg, ensuring the lake is always teeming with eager fish. In fact, around 1.5 tonnes of rainbow trout are released here each year! In addition to trout, pike, perch and roach occur naturally, offering varied fishing experiences for both sport and leisure anglers.

To fish at Lake Grundsjön you need a valid fishing permit. Permits are easily obtained via services like iFiske or from a ticket machine on-site. Around the lake there are several piers to fish from—one of which is wheelchair-accessible and close to the parking area so everyone can reach the water easily. You can choose to bait fish from the shore, cast from a pier, or even try fly fishing on a calm summer evening. Whatever method you choose, you’ll experience the thrill of a bite in Lake Grundsjön’s fish-rich waters.

Nature Experiences and Hiking at the Lake

Beyond fishing, Lake Grundsjön offers a fantastic nature experience. The lake sits at about 150 meters above sea level atop Ryssberget, meaning the surroundings consist of high-altitude forests with majestic views in places. The area around Grundsjön is made up of lush beech woods mixed with oak and hornbeam, and is rich in wildlife. Birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts will find plenty to discover, and the lake is known to host various dragonfly species during the summer months.

Running through this area are popular hiking trails. The Blekingeleden begins at the coast in Sölvesborg and its first stage ends right at Grundsjön, making the lake a natural stopping point with opportunities for rest or overnight stays. From Blekingeleden you can easily continue onto the Skåneleden, which leads into Skåne County. In fact, Grundsjön is the first overnight shelter along Skåneleden when coming from Sölvesborg. There are two simple wind shelters by the lake where hikers can stay overnight for free under the open sky, as well as several well-equipped barbecue spots. Waking up by the lake to birdsong or gathering around a campfire beneath a starry sky is part of the true wilderness experience here.

For those who aren’t tackling long-distance trails but still want to explore the area, there are pleasant walking paths around the lake. In 2015–2016 these paths were refurbished with crushed stone, making it easy to reach both fishing spots and picnic areas. Be sure to bring a packed lunch—there’s nothing better than enjoying a grilled sausage at one of the barbecue spots while the sun dances on the water. Note that Grundsjön’s soft, silty bottom makes it unsuitable for swimming; instead, visitors focus on fishing, hiking, and relaxing in this beautiful wilderness setting.

Behind the excellent fishing opportunities at Lake Grundsjön stands SFK Regnbågen, the Regnbågen Sport Fishing Club in Sölvesborg. This non-profit association has been dedicated to sport fishing in the area since 1978. The club adopted its current name in 1981 (after the rainbow trout) and assumed full responsibility for the lake’s management in 1991. SFK Regnbågen stocks rainbow trout annually and maintains the surroundings to keep them welcoming and accessible. The many floating piers, shelters, and well-kept barbecue areas are the result of its members’ work and care for the environment. The club ensures that Grundsjön remains a fishing paradise for the whole family, where both experienced anglers and beginners feel at home.

Lake Grundsjön is, in other words, more than just a spot on the map—it’s a living gathering place for outdoor life, fishing, and community. Whether you come here to land the catch of the year, embark on a scenic hike, or simply relax by the water with a thermos of coffee, you will be warmly welcomed. We hope you leave with fond memories—and perhaps a freshly caught rainbow trout for dinner! Welcome to discover Lake Grundsjön—Blekinge’s and Skåne’s shared gem for fishing and outdoor adventure.
